Innovator for a Day
Discover Innovation at Buffalo State!
Are you a high school student interested in engineering, technology, or solving real-world problems? Innovator for a Day, sponsored by National Grid, is a hands-on campus experience designed to introduce students to the exciting world of STEM and innovation at Buffalo State University.
During this interactive half-day program, students visit campus and participate in a series of engaging sessions led by faculty, industry professionals, and campus partners. Each school participates as a group and rotates through activities designed to highlight how creativity, engineering, and technology come together to solve real-world challenges.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Take part in hands-on STEM and engineering activities
- Learn how innovation and creativity drive problem-solving in many careers
- Hear from professionals working in STEM fields
- Explore how Buffalo State programs prepare students for careers in technology, engineering, and related industries
- Experience the collaborative and creative environment of Buffalo State’s campus
The day typically includes three interactive sessions and a group lunch where students can continue conversations with faculty and professionals.
Whether you are already interested in engineering or simply curious about how innovation shapes the world around us, Innovator for a Day provides an exciting introduction to the possibilities of STEM at Buffalo State.

Innovator for a Day 2026
Innovator for a Day 2026 was held on Thursday, March 19. Students from three local high schools viewed a demonstration of a capacitor explosion, got hands-on with beadboards and components to build simple circuits, and met professionals employed by some of WNY’s leading engineer-based companies.
