Our original two-week intensive experience has been reshaped, but will still have you chopping, slicing, and serving your way to a new rewarding career in the culinary industry!
Taught in the state-of-the-art culinary labs at SUNY Buffalo State, you will learn from renowned faculty and guests in the WNY restaurant community.
The RISE UP program prepares individuals for a variety of positions within the food service industry. Drawing on the expertise of Buffalo State faculty, participants will work in state-of-the-art teaching kitchens to identify and safely use knives, as well as understand the operation of commercial equipment. The hospitality industry is hinged on excellent customer service, problem-solving and communication skills; all of these transferable skills are addressed throughout the program.
Participants will have the opportunity to interact with and draw on the experience of featured chefs and restaurant owners from throughout WNY. New skills will immediately be applied in the culminating event: a light fare reception attended by restaurateurs looking to hire. Industry recognized credentials, a certificate of completion, and an industry grade “tool of the trade” will be awarded at course completion.

- Guidance on interviewing and resume creation
- Strategies to manage challenges and promote exemplary customer service
